Metro Sixers - Hoop Group Winner
May 20, 2012

The Metro Sixers ascended onto Hoop Group headquarters in Neptune, NJ to once again establish that the best basketball comes from the DMV.

Our teams played up one age division to ensure the right level of competition.  The 4th Grade played two competitive games on Saturday and went 2-0.  On Sunday, they played South Jersey Jazz for the right to go to the championship.  Unfortunately, they were a little shorthanded this weekend to handle the bigger South Jersey Jazz. The 4th Grade finished 2-1.

The 5th Grade team played a very competitive pool. However, they were able to win the pool at 3-0. They advanced to the semi-final bracket to face the New Jersey Sure Shots.  This was a game that we could have won. In the end the team played very well this weekend and finished 3-1.

The 6th Grade won their pool and advanced to the playoff brackets.  The first game was against Ashbury Park Elite of Neptune, NJ.  The game was back-and-forth for the first 6 minutes of the game,  Then the Sixers went on 15-2 run and never looked back.  The team advanced to the Championship game vs. South Jersey Jazz.

The Metro Sixers jumped out to a 9-0 run and the Jazz came storming back with a run of their own. However, the speed of the Sixers and the passing was too much for them to handle.  The Sixers led by as much as 30 points at one point in the game, before closing out the game by 20 points.

Great Job!

Slotted as B2 in the 5th Grade Division the 11u Sixers was in the pool with Fairfax Stars, 6th Man Warriors and Team Glory.  They went 3-0 in pool play and advanced to the first round of bracket play.

To reach the championship game the Sixers had to go through the MD Player makers; Team Takeover - VA and finally in the championship against DC Assault.

The Sixers was not rattled or shaken by the relentless defense of Team Takeover.  The coaching staff kept the players under control and focused.  This would prove to be the difference down the stretch.

This was the second impressive win in the past two weeks by the Metro Sixers over DC Assault in a championship game.

The format is grueling and is a testament to a team's conditioning.  The 6th Grade team won their pool and advanced to the Gold Brackets.  They played three tough games last weekend against national level competition.  Unfortunately, the grind of the three games took it's toll and the team lost it's first bracket game.
