Metro Sixers - MIT Tournament
February 17, 2013

The Metro Sixers entered all four teams (5th,
6th, 7th and 8th grades) into the MIT tournament.  As usual there are a number of top level teams that participate from all over the country.

Our team did well given their time together and the strength of their pools.  We played some quality basketball and even though we did not win in all cases, we walked way with a better understanding of where we are and what is needed to get to the next level.

The 5th and 6th Grade teams came out of pool play into the GOLD medal rounds of the playoff. The 6th grade lost to Team Loaded out of Virginia in the first round.  The 5th grade team made it to the FINAL FOUR against Team Takeover.  The game was highly contested and we came up short in the end.

The 8th grade team our newest addition to the organization got it's first taste of the MIT and all of the talented teams that participate.  We had chances and were not able to capitalize.  This was a good lesson.

Our BBall Spotlight #4 Ranked 7th grade Metro Sixers team played a national level schedule in two days.  We began the journey to the championship game by winning pool play with a 2-0 record on Saturday.  However, Sunday morning first round playoffs will prove to be the test of all...we started the out with playing and defeated Adidas Phenom of Florida.

The second round didn't get any better with playing BBall Spotlight's #1 ranked 7th grade team Team IZOD of New Jersey.  We played a very smart and intelligent game against a big and athletic team.  We lead from tip to finish and put away the highly-touted Team IZOD.

On to the the CHAMPIONSHIP where we would meet the much feared BBall Spotlight #5 Ranked Playtime Panthers of New Jersey.  Again, the 7th grade team showed why they should be considered in the conversation as one of the elite teams in the country.

The Metro Sixers jumped out to a lead mid way into the 2nd quarter and never looked back. The Panthers came storming back with a run of their own. However, the speed of the Sixers and the passing was too much for them to handle.  The Sixers led by as much as 15 points at one point in the game, before closing out the game 69-65.

Metro Sixers - Nike Elite Youth Basketball Tournament in Hampton, VA
March 24, 2013
The Nike EYB tournament attracts teams from north of the border all the way to west coast.  This weekend was packed with rising stars at the 7th Grade level.  Congratulations go out to the 7th Grade team for winning their pool (3-0) and then defeating 916 Select (CA) in the first round of bracket play.
This was follow-ed up with a buzzer beater in the second round of bracket play to defeat Team Felton (NC) to advance to the championship game vs. CIA Bounce (CAN).  This team played like the true championship they are with legitimate 7th Graders.
The Metro Sixers lead for 3/4 of the game until injury struck our leading post player with cramps. At which time CIA Bounce was able to make a run down the stretch and was able to pull out the win.  Our team showed the capacity crowed how a true 7th Grade team can play with the "stacked" CIA Bounce team.
Congratulations!

Metro Sixers - BBall Spotlight Showcase in Atlantic City, NJ
March 31, 2013

The BBall Showcase decided to create a "SUPER POOL" of the top talented teams in the tournament to ensure they all got the toughest bump. This pool contained Team Izod (Ranked #1 by BBall Spotlight); DC Assualt (AAU 2012 6th Champions, Rank #3 by BBall Spotlight); Metro Sixers (M.I.T 2013 Champions, Ranked #4 by BBall Spotlight); and RENS (AAU Top 10 2012 - 6th Grade).

The Metro Sixers went second in the pool with a 2-1 record.  The only lost of the tournament came at the hands of local talent DC Assault.  All teams came out of pool play to play the winners of the other four respective pools.

The Sixers first round match-up was with New Heights of NY.  The second round match-up was with Team Izod (who we defeated in pool play) to advance to the championship game with DC Assault (who we lost to in pool play).

The stage is now set for a rematch of the Metro Sixers and DC Assault for the championship.  In a little more that 12 hours earlier, the Sixers lost to DC Assault and it was time to even the score. The Sixers got out fast and it was a track meet from start to finish. Metro Sixers defeated DC Assault.

Congratulations go out to the 7th Grade team for winning the BBall Spotlight Showcase.

Metro Sixers - MD Cardinals Tournament, Salisbury, MD
March 3, 2013

Congratulations go out to the 8th Grade team that participated in the MD Cardinals tournament in Salisbury, MD.

The team was short handed (six players), but was able to come out second in the pool and reach the championship game.  The Sixers played Delaware Downstate for the championship.

The game was close the entire time until the last few minutes when we just ran out of gas. However, they did not stop playing hard...it was a numbers game.

8th Grade  - 2nd Place

Metro Sixers - GOLD Medalist Hampton, VA
March 9, 2013

Congratulations go out to the 5th Grade, 6th Grade and 7th Grade teams that participated in Boo Williams AAU Super Regional. The Metro Sixers completed a TRIFECTA by winning GOLD in their respected Division I grades.

The teams (5th, 6th, 7th-Maroon and 7th Grade) battled tough competition all weekend long. The teams advanced out of pool play into the playoff rounds.  The teams competed against the Norfolk Wildcats in all grades, Prime Time Peninsula, Hampton Hoyas, VA Select, and Team 757.

This was a very good weekend for the players, parents and coaches.  As an organization, I'm very proud of the way in which we conducted ourselves in the face of a hostile environment. However, in the end the Metro Sixers took first place in all three grade divisions.

Go Sixers!

Metro Sixers - HC Elite March Madness Tournament in
Columbia, MD
March 24, 2013

The 8th Grade team participated in the HC Elite March Madness tournament in Columbia, MD.
The team played extremely tough competition all weekend.  We went 1-3 overall for the tournament, with the losses totaling 24 points.  We had opportunities in every game to be successful.  It was good outing and gave the team a chance to continue working on the game time situations.

Hoops,
