Sixers Reach Championship Game
May 16, 2010

The 8u Sixers played tough all weekend defeating some tough competition to reach the championship game on Sunday.  The stage was set for a Potomac Valley AAU District rematch between DC Assault Cole and the Metro Sixers.

The game was a hotly contested and the kids played well, but due to things out of our control the game was won by DC Assault. This is a match-up for years to come.

6th Annual Summer Breeze
May 18, 2010

We want to congratulate all the teams who participated in the 6th  Annual Metro Sixers Summer Breeze. We hosted a very competitive field of over 50 teams this summer. This year we had teams from Delaware, Pennsylvania,  Baltimore and all over the DMV metropolitan area.

Championship Sunday was held at Bowie City Gym and Bishop  McNamara and it was jammed packed with high school coaches and fans. We are proud to bring to this area one of the most exciting leagues. We had a lot fun watching the future high school stars and college hopefuls of tomorrow go head-to-head in good clean fun!

10u Sixers - Place 10th At AAU National
August 16, 2010

The Metro Sixers ending the year on a high note.  After working all year long in the gyms, playing in tournaments all along the east coast...it paid off!

It simply means that the Metro Sixers are the only 10u team from Potomac Valley to place at the Division 1 national tournament. A total of 7 points (5, 1, 1) over three games separated this team from reaching the FINAL FOUR!

Again, we are so proud of the team's positive attitude and continue hard work during the year. There are several other teams who journeyed to Detroit and did not comeback with a trophy and medals.

Go Sixers!

Sixers Win Capital Sports
2010 Spring League
June 6, 2010

The 9u Sixers defeated a scrappy JP Elite to
take the 9u Age Division in the 2010 Capital Sports Spring League.  To get to the championship game the team had to win in
Triple Overtime against DC Assault to
advance.

The team is playing extremely well and each
time out on the floor good things happen.
The summer is time to improve your game
and get better.  Congratulations...job well
done!

Pre-Thanksgiving Cabaret
Old School vs New School
November 14, 2010

The Metro Sixers held it's Pre-Thanksgiving Cabaret on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Holy Family Banquet Hall in Temple Hills, Maryland.  The Cabaret was very well attended by family and friends of the Metro Sixers.  We listen to music by DJ Damon of Master Productions. The crowd was treated to hits from the 70s-2K10.  We sincerely appreciate the support of Sixers parents who dedicated themselves to ensuring we had a successful event.  The event is an opportunity for the parents to fellowship and spend time away from the basketball court and enjoy some adult time together. This type of event is essential to building relationships across the teams, as well as across the entire organization. Again, we thank those parents and friends who join us for an outstanding affair!  We have capture some moments in time from the event.

Adopt a Family - A Gift of Joy!
December 29, 2010

The 10u Metro Sixers lead an effort to sponsor a family this past holiday season.  The family was identified and the team orchestrated the collection of various gifts and items to give this family a chance for a wonderful Christmas!

We want to thank all of the families that participated in this worthwhile cause and may your generosity return to you 10-fold.

A special Note from the School...

Thanks so much for the generosity extended by the Metro Sixers to one of the families of James McHenry Elementary/Middle School.  The Christmas presents donated to the the sibling group were delivered on December 22, 2010.  That next school day, an excited Davin and Purity told me they planned to open the gifts on Christmas morning.  I am sure you will be hearing from them after school resumes on January 3rd.  Ms. Helen also expressed gratitude for the gifts.

Again, thanks to the Metro Sixers Family for supporting a family from James McHenry Elementary/Middle School.

Sincerely,
Crystal Ruffin
School Social Worker

We want to send out a special thanks to Malcom Robinson for bring this opportunity to the organization and to Damon Watts, 10u Team Manager for coordinating the gift collection and distribution.

Sixers Win BBall Spotlight
Memorial Day Classic Champions
May 30, 2010

There are few words to describe this weekend's tournament at the BBall Spotlight Memorial Day Classic.  The one that I believe fit the effort and play of the young men this weekend is simply...WOW!

The Fabulous 5, the 5 Heartbeats or the Magnificent 5 are a few words to describe the players this weekend.  To the families who traveled this weekend...thank you!  This team with stood a hurricane (Elizabeth Ballers); a Typhoon (NY Gauchos) and Wave (MD Spartans) to claim the 10u Age Division Championship.

The team won each game by 15 or more points per game. The team played exceptional "team basketball" and the onlookers were amazed by what they witnessed by this team.

It was a lot of hard work for these young men, but they game 110% of all they had to win it ALL!

Go Sixers!

8u Sixers - Finish 3rd in Classic
July 8, 2010

Congratulations to the players, coaches and parents for representing the Metro Sixers
at the 8u AAU National tournament in Memphis, TN.  Eight and under is a very interesting age
division to attend AAU nationals.  The most important thing too remember is that these
a re 8 year olds.  The outcome of an AAU
national tournament or any other tournament does not define the quality of the team or the players.

It simply means that for that day or particular weekend there were other teams that were better.  However, it can be used as a
measuring stick to clearly understand what it takes to compete on that level.

Again, we are so proud of the team's positive attitude and continue hard work during the
week. There are several other teams who journeyed to Memphis and did not comeback
with a trophy and medals.

10u Sixers Reach MIT Final Four
June 13, 2010

Congratulations to the 10u Sixers for an excellent tournament.  The 10u Sixers showed why Potomac Valley is one of the toughest districts in AAU.  The Maryland Invitational Tournament (MIT) was filled with the Who's Who in AAU.  Many of national teams that placed at 9u AAU National were in attendance.

In the MOST unbearable conditions one could imagine the teams played well and performed at a very high caliber.  The Sixers won their pool facing off Long Island Lighting (NY); QCAA Force Blue (NC).

Once pool play completed and the playoffs began, we started with Hoop Dreams (KY); and then we faced national level competition in EOTO (GA) (Runner-Up 9u AAU National). The third round of the MIT playoffs was against Riverside Hawks (NY).  The team played well and fought to the very end...but, this time we came up short.

The measure of this weekend is a true indication that our 10u Sixers can play on a national level with the best that AAU has to offer.  This weekend was all about the nationals which is one month away.  WE ARE READY!

Fall Basketball League - FINAL Results
November 8, 2010

We just completed the completed the playoffs
for the 2010 Fall League.  We want to congratulate all of the teams for a very good season.  Our championship weekends have become
synonymous with high caliber of play and intensity.  This weekend was no different and
we are very happy to see all of the parents in attendance for the kids.

After eight years of running a fall league, we have closed another chapter in the history of
the Metro Sixers.  We want to thank all of the teams over the years for participating in our annual fall league and we believe our efforts
have contributed to several players now in their college years.

However, we will continue our winter league
and tournaments in the coming future. We hope to see in one our future events.

Holiday Family Sponsors
December 19, 2010

Saturday's adventure was a lot of fun. The guys said they enjoyed it. The program volunteers really enjoyed and appreciated having them participate.  Our contribution was to pack food boxes for the SHARE program. The boxes had to be ready by 8:45am for pick up. The guys also helped transport the boxes to the cars.

Thanks for allowing them to participate. Perhaps, we'll do it again in the spring to give other players a chance to experience the pleasure of giving back to the community.

A special thanks goes out to Kim Slater, 11u Team Manager for organizing and locating this worthwhile program for the players to support during the holidays!  Job Well done!
