April 27, 2011

Congratulations to our 9u Sixers for earning the Bronze Medal in the 2K11 Potomac Valley AAU Regional tournament.

As did the 11u Sixers, the 9u team had to endure horrific officiating and horrible conditions.  They played well and did not let the distraction deter them from achieving their quest for a national bid.

We are very proud of the way they played and never stop competing from start to finish.  Their play symbolized our motto of "Team First" in every way.

Again, congratulations at the nationals.

5th Grade/11u Sixers - Finish 10th In The AAU National Championships
July 24, 2011

Congratulations to the players, coaches and parents for representing the Metro Sixers at the 5th Grade/11u AAU National Championship in Cocoa Beach, FL.  Our team showed why they are the number 5th Grade/11u team in Potomac Valley.  This represents a Back to Back 10th Place Finish for the team (2010, 4th Grade).  The team faced tremendous adversity in the beginning, but was able to prevail and win four straight games to place 10th in the nation.

The outcome of an AAU national tournament or any other tournament does not define the quality of the team or the players.  It simply means that for that day or particular weekend there were other teams that were better or worst.

However, it can be used as a measuring stick to clearly understand what it takes to compete on that level.

Again, we are so proud of the team's positive attitude and continue hard work during the
week. There were 68 other teams who journeyed to Cocoa Beach, FL and did not place.

Metro Sixers Take GOLD in
Potomac Valley AAU D1 Regional
April 27, 2011

In spite of all of the difficulties this team faced all weekend with inadequate facilities and training officials, the 11u Metro Sixers were able to prevail and take the GOLD.

The success of this team was put in place in the fall of 2010 (fall league) and continued through the winter of 2011 (winter league).  There were short stops along the way in New York, New York; Hampton, VA and Harrisburg, PA.

There style of play and team work is reminiscent of how the game is supposed to be played.  We are very proud their accomplishment and they will represent Potomac Valley well at the nationals.

3rd Grade/9u Sixers - AAU National Championships
July 31, 2011

The 3rd Grade/9u Sixers competed in the 2011 AAU national championship in Orlando, FL.  The team played extremely hard in game #1 and lost by 2.  However, the team rebounded the next game and won by 8 points.

The win setup the stage for win/loss for 2nd place finish out of the pool.  Unfortunately, they did not win the third game.  However, they were able to finish second place.

We want to congratulate the players, coaches and parents for representing the Metro Sixers at the AAU National Championships. The team showed strength and character.  The plan is to get back in the gym and start the process all over again.

Job well done!
